Week 2 of Homeschooling: Field Trips
This week was a whirlwind of fun, learning, and adventure as we embraced the freedom that homeschooling offers with not one but two exciting field trips! Here's a recap of how our week unfolded.
Monday: Family Time and Preparation for the Week
We kicked off the week with a relaxed Monday, giving ourselves a breather before the busy days ahead. Our day began with our usual Family Meeting and Devotion. This time is so valuable for us to connect, set our intentions, and ensure everyone is on the same page for the week.
We spent the day relaxing in the hammock and getting in lots of cuddles. It was a calm and peaceful start, setting a positive tone for the days ahead.
Tuesday: A Heartwarming Visit to an Assisted Living Facility
Tuesday was our first big outing of the week with our Homeschool Revival Village Field Trip group. We visited an assisted living facility, where we spent the morning painting and fellowshipping with the residents.
It was such a blessing to see the joy on their faces as we shared our time and creativity with them. Afterward, we headed to a nearby park for some much-needed playtime. The kids loved the chance to run around and enjoy the fresh air after a morning of service.
Wednesday: Exploring Eudora Wildlife Safari Park
On Wednesday, we joined more friends from our Homeschool Revival Village Field Trip group for a field trip to Eudora Wildlife Safari Park. This was a day filled with excitement as we encountered amazing animals up close!
From majestic zebras to curious camels, the kids were in awe of God’s creation. It was also a fantastic opportunity for meeting new homeschool moms & socializing with friends, making the experience even more memorable.
If you’re interested in joining us for our next adventure, or if you’d like to plan your own field trips in the group, be sure to check out our Homeschool Revival Village Events group. We’d love to have you!
Thursday & Friday: Back to Routine
After two busy days, we needed to slow down. Thursday and Friday were dedicated to getting back into our normal routine. We focused on completing schoolwork and chores, ensuring that everything was in order after the excitement of the week. It was nice to have these quieter days to regroup and reflect on all we had experienced.
Project of the Week: Transforming Our Fire Pit
Amidst all the excitement, we also tackled a fun project. My son took the lead in transforming our winter fire pit into a summer pool for the littles. It was a creative and resourceful project, and the younger kids are absolutely loving their new splash zone!
What we’re learning:
Marcellus (age 2) is learning to count to 20 and knows his shapes, colors & the ABC song. He’s putting on his shoes by himself and learning to zip his pants.
We’re still potty training with only 1-2 accidents a day. Hoping to have him potty trained before he starts his preschool class on Sept. 5th. He’s using so many new words everyday, I hardly keep up!
Mariell (age 6) is starting to get the the hang of simple addition. She’s been bringing her books to me to read and spending more and more time looking through the books I leave for her in the bathroom. I’m looking for more opportunities to get her to read to learn and use real life math in our everyday lives. She used her own money in the store this week and remembered to add tax.
Marc (age 12) Is doing a better job keeping his room clean and following his morning schedule. When’s not listening to audio books or building, he’s been enjoying learning about the differnt branches of the government and the American Revolution.
Marriana (age 14) took on our meal planning and grocery shopping for this upcoming week.
We’ve been wanting to let them have more control over money and understand how expensive groceries can cost.
It’s also an attempt to help them not waste food and consider normal sized portions!
She completed her 1st Book Report of the new year about the American Revolution and I’m pretty impressed with her final result.
She’s up every morning before me getting her work done so she can enjoy the rest of her day.
Final Thoughts
Two field trips in one week is a lot, but it was worth every moment!
I wouldn’t recommend it every week but if your schedule allows it every now and & then, it’s ok. I’ll share alittle more next week about how we get our curriculum done on busy days.
But for a short explanation is we pack book bags and take our work with us. We listen to audiobooks and recite Bible verses on our ride. We homeschool in the evenings after nap time and sometimes on Saturdays. The learning never stops.Â
One think my teens have been good about is making sure they get their work done so they can get out more and have more time with friends. I’m good with it as long as work gets done.
We’re grateful for the flexibility homeschooling gives us to make memories like these. Looking forward to what the next week holds! Lord here’s my life.
